In "Licensed to Sell" by Geoff Brandwood, Andrew Davison & Michael Slaughter, published by English Heritage, 2004, chapter 7 is devoted to Great Pub Myths including claims to the oldest pub,Haunts of highwayman, pawnbroking and pubs built in expectation of railways that were not constructed.<br /><br />The sub-title of the book is The History and Heritage of the Public House.
