This ghost sign on Woolwich New Road is a bit of a mystery. Half of it has worn away, and the other half is not easy to decipher. However, it does include the words 'kept a--' and, most intriguingly, 'gramophones'. Any suggestions on what it advertised are very welcome!

Surprised that I have never noticed that one as I occasionally run past there, has it been hidden? I found really clear one, which I posted about, a couple of months ago in Lewisham which had been covered for years.
This photograph shows the building a few years ago, when the sign was less eroded. The picture is too small to be clear, but the first word is certainly COMPLETE. I would guess that the sign originally read

THE LATEST

Well, probably because that must be an A after KEPT it should be

If it is gramophone record that the sign is referring to, it could well have been Drysdales which were a little further down Woolwich New Road, which certainly was open from at least the mid 1920s to mid 1960s.
