Chris is correct, it is indeed Pallant House. And you're both right about the dodo resemblance - but it's actually meant to be a different bird altogether. Any ideas?
No one really knows but it is assumed it is supposed to be an ostrich. I suspect the carver had never seen an ostrich, rather like Durer drawing a rhino he had only ever seen in pictures.
