The Marche des Lices in Rennes is one of Brittany's best food markets and the third largest in France. It's had plenty of time to perfect things, though: it dates back to 1622.
Thank you! I'd love to visit the Cours Saleya: one of the things I love about French markets is the way they all vary so much. I can never resist a regional speciality!

I've visited Rennes, while spending Christmas with friends nearby, but missed out on the famous market - so delighted to read/see more (eg unaware it has been running since 17th cent). I lived in la rue Mouffetard during my Paris stint - an even older market, there, albeit more of a series of shops now. Markets + food = two of my favourite things ... many thanks!
PS But, of course, le Marché des Lices simply cannot compete with le Cours Saleya (even though the latter's younger) ;-)!
PPS I would say that, wouldn't I?
Lovely photos
