Pleeeeeeeeeaaaaase put us out of our misery! This one has been puzzling me ever since I first saw it: I think it's that frown on the bell's 'face' that complicates matters; plus the frame does rather resemble a gibbet. Who/what/when/why/WHERE?!
Okay then! It's The Bell on Middlesex Street, near Aldgate. I haven't been able to find out any reason for the particular design, though, so it's probably just a rather sinister piece of Victorian whimsy. However, the pub is alleged to be haunted!
