Holiday snaps

I'm home from my holiday, over the jetlag, and back to work. At least I have the photos to look at...

I hope you had a good time in China. If I were to hazard a guess about the photos, I'd say (1) one of the side pavilions at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, (2) on the Li River between Guilin and Yangshuo in Guangxi, and (3) Shanghai.

I had a really good time - and that's almost 3/3! (1) is very nearly right - a pavilion in the Forbidden City - and the other 2 are absolutely correct.

True, this is the Palace of Heavenly Purity. I didn't pay enough attention. At the Temple of Heaven all lintels have the same decoration and mythical birds rather than dragons are painted between the zigzagging lines. In the Forbidden City though, the central lintel (on the right on your photo) is slightly longer than the others and incorporates at both ends, between vertical straight lines, a 'cartouche' with a dragon.
