When I posted on the extraordinary rock carvings at Rotheneuf, I mentioned that they are being eroded by the elements. A little while ago, I came across this old postcard. It's undated, and I even wonder whether it's from before 1910 as the area to the right of the steps appears uncarved where today there are more sculptures.
Whatever its date, it has brought home the wear and tear caused by the tides. Although the central part of the postcard has survived pretty well - as you can see below - many of the foreground figures are formless or lost and don't even feature in my pictures.
