West country miscellanea

I spent this weekend in Somerset, and just wanted to share a few random features I enjoyed. First, a character hanging around on the Penniless Porch leading to Wells Cathedral:


Exeter Cathedral has five modern grotesques by Peter Dare, including a pipe-smoking dog (a real animal, Butch, who enjoyed local fame at the time) and a fellow who doesn't like the smell from the drainpipe:


These two Bridgwater chimneys are both attention-grabbing, albeit in very different ways:


Finally, the Bull and Butcher pub may have gone but its wonderful name lives on:
